Professor claims Jesus was queer; students call for prof’s removal
The professor is Tat Siong Benny Liew, chair of New Testament Studies at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Robert Ritchie of TFP Student Action tells OneNewsNow that Liew’s teachings are absurd and unfounded.
“For example,” says Ritchie, “we have some things that he’s written saying that our Lord Jesus Christ was some kind of a cross-dresser who had queer desires and eroticizes the Passion of the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of the quotes that we used to write up our petition campaign against this professor are just unrepeatable.”
According to an article in the College of the Holy Cross journal The Fenwick Review, Liew not only claims that Jesus Christ was a cross-dresser with queer desires, but also a “drag king.” According to that article, Liew apparently takes most of these ideas from the Gospel of John, and argues that while John makes it clear Jesus was a Jew, he leaves open the question of whether or not Jesus was a biological male.
At a minimum, the group is demanding an apology from the errant professor.
Ritchie further explains, “One of the things that we did when we first heard about these writings was to work up a petition, asking people who were concerned to sign a petition to the president of Holy Cross College asking them to remove this teacher.”
The organization’s first goal of 10,000 signatures has been surpassed, and the new goal is 15,000. The activist group has also mounted a rally of reparation and peaceful protest planned for Saturday (April 7) at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Jesuit school. People from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and other nearby states have already committed to attend.
Holy Cross spokesperson John Hill tells Fox News that Liew has not taught any of these ideas in the classroom, and that no one has made a complaint about Liew’s teaching in his four years at the college.
