Answer: My sense of this type of thing is that it is an attack of Satan in their dreams. Satan is our enemy and he wants us to become fearful. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (1 Peter 5:8) It should not be surprising to us then that he uses his demons to attack us any way he can. Our response should be one of prayer for deliverance! "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)
Anytime something causes us fear it is not of God. Whenever holy angels appeared to people in the Bible they always said something like, don’t be afraid. God’s word tells us, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." (1 John 4:18)
When dealing with demonic spirits, ask the Lord Jesus Christ to deliver you from them. "Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you!’" (Jude 9) Make sure they are not watching any videos, TV shows, or playing games that are of the devil. (Look at our article on this subject.)
Claim the Word of God and use it as a sword (Hebrews 4:12-13) like Jesus did when he was attack by Satan. Three times He said to Satan, "It is written." (Luke 4:1-8) (Matthew 4:1-11) Notice it says after this that the devil left Him. "Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him."
Remember anytime fear comes, it is not from God, and so they need to resist the devil in the power of the Lord and His Word. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7) "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of hosts." (Zechariah 4:6b)
Then too, we need to put on the whole armor of the God found in Ephesians 6:10-17. We have a study on this that you might be interested in going to. (Ephesians Study Part Five) One last verse to think about, but there are many more as well, "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (of the flesh or physical) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing ever thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
These are thoughts, even though they are in their dreams, so they have to bring them into captivity to the obedience of Christ! We will be praying for these believers and for you as you speak to them.
In Christ,
Gary T. Panell
