Pro-lifers cheer action at UN
The Trump administration is halting the flow of U.S. tax dollars to the United Nations Population Fund, a total of $32.3 million dollars for 2017.
One reason is the agency’s role in China’s longtime “one child” policy that limits a family’s number of children and also forces abortion on women even if they object. That policy was recently changed by the Communist government to allow two children but the abortion mandates remain in place.
Rebecca Oas of C-FAM says the first funds from the Population Fund went to China in the 1980s.
China’s notorious abortion policy has been a target of Reggie Littlejohn and Women’s Rights Without Frontiers for years, and she tells OneNewsNow she is delighted to see a slowdown of U.S. tax dollars to the UN.
The announcement comes at the same time that President Trump is set to meet with China’s president, Xi Jinping.
“I think it definitely sends a tough message to Beijing,” says Littlejohn.
If the U.S. reduces other funding to the UN in coming days, Oas says a one-on-one relationship with other countries is better than funding a UN agency with little oversight and accountability.
