children watching TVThe FCC should have all its leadership positions filled soon following Senate confirmation hearings next week – and the Parents Television Council hopes the result will be an agency that advocates for the family.

The two open leadership positions on the five-seat Federal Communications Commission will require Senate confirmation, but PTC’s Melissa Henson is hopeful the additions of Jessica Rosenworcel and Brendan Carr – and the reconfirmation of Ajit Pai to another full term as chairman – should mean good news for families.

“I don’t know much about Brendan Carr at this point, but we do know that Jessica Rosenworcel has been a vocal champion for families,” Henson shares with OneNewsNow. “I believe the same of Ajit Pai.”

FCC building entrancePTC earlier applauded the re-nomination of Rosenworcel, an Obama appointee who served on the FCC from May 2012-January 2017. Carr is an attorney, a ten-year member of the Federalist Society, and currently general counsel for the FCC.

According to Henson, PTC has hand-delivered nearly 3,000 broadcast indecency complaints to the FCC over content found on the Fox program “The Mick.” She urges the FCC to “take enforcing broadcast decency laws very seriously and … move swiftly to review and make a ruling on these complaints.”

But Henson does caution the FCC to be very careful with any ruling they make because there’s an expectation that the next FCC fine will likely be challenged by the studios. “So they need to make sure that they have all their ducks in a row in case that challenge does come,” she adds.
