Abortion Survivors bill passes easily in WV

21-week babyBabies born alive after surviving an abortion in West Virginia now have a fighting chance after state legislators took action.

The West Virginia legislature approved the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in a unanimous Senate vote on Feb. 10 after the House approved the measure 92-6.

Wanda Franz, who heads West Virginians for Life, says the measure requires abortionists to provide life-sustaining help to a baby born alive, the same help a baby born premature would get at the same general gestational age. Doctors who fail to do so face punishment by the state medical board.

In recent years, abortion survivors have come forward to tell their stories and therefore forced the grim issue to be discussed and debated.

In neighboring Virginia, pro-abortion governor Ralph Northam gave the issue even more attention in his now-infamous radio interview discussing how to properly care for such infants.

Many abortion supporters, meanwhile, have been forced to confront their own ideology that suggests the fetus is not a human being, or they have been forced to claim the “non-human”-turned-surviving-infant is a rare occasion, and hence a state law is not necessary.

In debate over the West Virginia law, Democrats said abortion is already banned after 20 weeks in the state and reminded their GOP colleagues that murder is already against the law.

Franz tells OneNewsNow that Virgnia pro-lifers learned of a baby surviving an abortion at a Virginia clinic, where a nurse ignored the doctor who instructed her to withhold care because it was part of the abortion.

“So she went back and wrapped it in a blanket, and held it, and baptized the baby, and called him John, and said that she would be his voice in the future,” Franz recalls.

The nurse who held the baby tells her story in a clip on the West Virginians for Life websie.
