(TRUNEWS) A 40-year-old man in Scotland has been arrested over posts on Facebook about refugees.

He is being held in violation of the Communications Act, which bans “grossly offensive” posts online. Details of the man’s postings have not been made public, but it has been revealed the remarks involved Syrian refugees that have been settled on Bute Island.

A police spokesperson made comments to local media, according to Breitbart.

“I hope that the arrest of this individual sends a clear message that Police Scotland will not tolerate any form of activity which could incite hatred and provoke offensive comments on social media,” they said.

This isn’t the first time citizens in Europe have been taken into custody for remarks against the government or in criticism of the migrant crisis.

In January, police in the Netherlands went to the homes of people who made posts that were “overly-critical” of the Dutch government. Facebook has agreed to help these governments.

The government of Germany has banned a right-wing internet platform, accusing it of spreading “anti-Islamic” and xenophobic content.

Altermedia Deutchland is now prohibited, according to Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, who said the “rule of law doesn’t allow hate crime”.

The two administrators were arrested, as reported by TRUNEWS.
