(TRUNEWS) There is a new push to make abortion easier to obtain – by sending pills through the mail.

A pilot program is being studied in Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and New York which will involve sending women abortion drugs so they don’t have to go to a clinic. The move is in response to abortion centers continuing to close down, as reported by The Guardian.

Esther Priegue, director of counseling at Choices Women’s Medical Center in Queens, New York claimed the idea is the where the pro-abortion movement is headed. She believes women should “never have to step into the clinic for even a moment”.

Currently, the FDA only allows the abortion drug mifepristone to be given out in a clinic.  Under the program test, four clinics will be allowed to ship it.   A video conference will be offered to advise women on how to take the drug.

It will be available to women who are nine weeks pregnant or less and live in the same state as the clinic.  They must also have a blood test to confirm they are carrying a baby.

Americans United for Life points out that 14 women have died from the drug.

“It is entirely reckless to hand out the drugs without supervision because of the deaths that have occurred,” said Kristi Hamrick, a spokesperson for the group, according to The Guardian.

Mifepristone blocks the progesterone hormone, which causes the uterus to break down and end the pregnancy. Hemorrhaging can occur.
