writing a letterAs federal law is being used in a manner that is not in sync with the intent of Congress, some traditional values groups are reminding the legislative body that the rights of school children who are not transgender are important, too.

At stake is the Obama administration’s order that in part allows gender-confused boys to use the bathroom and other facilities of their choice, which would seemingly populate them with girls in private matters. So Stephani Liesmaki of the Minnesota Family Council tells OneNewsNow that 34 family groups have sent a letter to Congress asking that the administration be called into check.

“We believe it’s the right and responsibility of parents and school administrators to ensure the safety and privacy of all students,” Liesmaki submits. “And because the Obama administration is seeking to violate young women’s bodily privacy and safety inside of restrooms, shower rooms, and locker rooms, we felt it was very appropriate to sign onto this letter.”

The education and attorney general offices have threatened lawsuits and the loss of Title IX federal funds if public schools do not comply with the order, so constitutional law experts suggest the Obama administration is violating the Constitution.

“It’s true that the president is overreaching here,” the Minnesota Family Council spokesperson adds. “The regulations in question regarding Title IX allow for educational facilities to maintain sex-specific restrooms and locker rooms, and really, the irony of it is that the same laws that were initially created to protect young women and girls are now being used against them.”

The letter from the 34 groups asks Congress to utilize its constitutional powers to straighten out the Obama administration.
