Long before the political conventions, Enough is Enough – an organization seeking to make the Internet a safe place for children and families – circulated the Children’s Internet Safety Pledge among presidential candidates. Hillary Clinton issued a letter of approval, but now President Donald Trump signed it.

Enough is Enough founder Donna Rice Hughes explains some of the principles included in the pledge.

“The first being to aggressively enforce the existing federal obscenity, child pornography, sexual predation and sex trafficking laws to prevent the sexual exploitation of children by appointing an attorney general who would aggressively go after each of these laws and make this a priority,” she states.

Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Senator Jeff Sessions, still faces a vote before the full Senate – perhaps this week.

Application of the Child Internet Protection Act would force schools and libraries that receive government money to filter pornography. While it remains to be seen whether the Department of Justice will follow suit, Huughes says president Trump has kept several of his campaign promises – and she expects him to be true to his on protecting children.

“He ran on a platform of restoring law and order,” she points out, “and I think it’s so important – and I think he realizes this, too – that in order for America to be great again, to be strong again, to be secure again, the Internet also has to be safe and secure … and especially for our most vulnerable: children.”

Hughes says her group is already communicating with a key senior Trump staff member.
