Question: Ok so I am having things go on that I don’t understand at all. I am 98% sure I have a ghost in my home, but I think that there may be a demon as well. When we were here about 8 months, we were sleeping and my 16 year old daughter started yelling for me, telling me there was a man standing in her door. My husband checked the house and found nothing. A year or maybe less later, I was sleeping and woke up and saw what looked like a man standing beside our bed. A year or longer went by and I was sleeping and my bedroom light turned on by itself.
Answer: Many people believe in ghosts. Often these same people believe that these ghosts are the spirits of those who have passed away. There are even many movies or television programs that are about ghosts as people coming back from the dead.
Most of the appearances of what people think are ghosts, though, are really demons (or fallen angels). These pretend like they are ghosts of those who have died. The Bible calls these ‘ghosts’ familiar spirits. These spirits were in or around people that they impersonate.
Fallen angels can evidently look like, dress like, talk like and even smell like those they are impersonating. In other words they take on the total appearance of the individual who has passed on in order to deceive humans and to confuse them. The Lord says don’t have anything to do with them.
Let’s look at some Scriptures that makes this perfectly clear: “Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.” (Lev. 19:31) “And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.” Lev. 20:6 “A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.” (Lev. 20:27)
We are in the age of grace so we don’t stone people who do such things, but we do know that they are the cause of many harmful things that happen to people who play around with familiar spirits.
“Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” (Mt. 12:45)
Here Jesus speaks about what happens to a person who tries to get free of spirits in their own strength. In other words, they turn over a new leaf or try to do good things to get rid of these spirits. The only way that we can have safety from them is to put our trust in the blood of Christ. We need to be born again and filled with the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ.
“And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, 18 as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.” (Luke 6:17-18)
“For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city.” (Acts 8:7, 8)
If you are having problems with ‘ghosts’ at you house or in your life you need to go to God in prayer. Jesus is the only name given under heaven to save and to deliver from evil spirits. In the United States people try to pretend that there are no spirits, everything is just material they teach in school and in the culture. However, in other parts of the world demon possession and ‘ghost’ are very much in the open. We saw this in Trinidad and Tobago where we were missionaries.
We had to pray and cast out demons on several occasions. We have several studies on this very thing if you want more information. You can go to our website Bible-Christian.org and look up the Ephesians Bible Study and in Parts Four and Five. Also, you will want to read, Mediums, Psychics, and Spiritualism. This article is in the section on Christian literature on Bible-Christian.org Just know this that the blood of Jesus is far more powerful than anything Satan tries to use against the believer!
I hope this will be of help to you,
