Question: I have herpes and I want to know what do I do now living with this disease, how do I get married now and start a family? How does God look at me, and what do I do from here?
Answer: You want to know how does God look at you, and I would say to you–if you have repented of your sin and received Christ as your Savior, He looks at you as this verse says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) People may look at your disease but God sees your heart. “For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7b) If you have not repented of your sin and received Christ as Savior, you can do that right now.
You see, when we get saved we get to start our life over again in a sense. St. Paul says, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have arrived; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14) Paul had a lot of things to regret if he wanted to look back, but we are not to look back, but forward as Christians. As far as God is concerned our sins are buried in the deepest sea, and He wants us to put a sign there that says: NO FISHING!
He says He has removed our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)
I could go on and on with these kinds of Scriptures, but I will end this part with this verse: “For He (God the Father) made Him (Jesus the Son) who knew no sin to be sin for us (as He died on the cross), that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21) You see when we receive Jesus into our lives; God takes away our sin, and puts in its place the righteousness of Christ. What more could we ask for!
To answer your other questions, you have the scars of the life you lived before, but I have seen God heal even these sometimes. You can pray for healing and God may very well deliver you from even Herpes, but then again He may tell you like he told Paul, my grace is sufficient for you. Paul had seen many healed of all sorts of diseases, but he was left with a sickness in his own body that God did not take away.
When God allows this He has some good reason for it. “And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:7-9)
If God does not see fit to heal you, I am told that the disease is manageable. You may find some help looking at the internet information, but you will probably need to see a doctor over this. You would be able to get advice from him or her on the marriage situation. I would say this, that if God wants you to marry, He will bring the right one along for you in His time that will be willing to live with the disease, if you are not healed by God. If He heals you, you won’t need to think about it. If you haven’t done it yet, I would go to a church that believes in healing and ask to be prayed for, because that is what God asks us to do. “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:14-16)
As far as children are concerned, I believe God can do this miracle too if it is His will for your life. I would pray for God’s perfect will to be done. He loves you with a love that you cannot imagine, and He will give you the desires of your heart if you will put Him first in your life! “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:4-5)
We are praying for you!

One of the best Christian responses to this issue that I have seen. Thanks for ministering to those of us Christians with this disease. Dear readers: don’t assume that this STD is a result of promiscuity.

Thank you for your message, please pray for me as I recently contracted this disease and I really wish I didn’t. I cant control thinking about this issue 24 hours per day. Please pray for my unbelief that God can cure me of my gential herpes or hsv2. I feel like I am defined by this illness.
Gary Panell says
Hi Lucia, First, let’s make sure you are saved, have you done this:
Going to heaven
is as simple as A B C !
Admit that we have sinned.
“…for all have sinned and fall short of
the glory of God… (Romans 3:23)
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and
you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)
Confess with our mouth.
“…that if you confess with your mouth
the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart
that God has raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved. For with the heart
one believes unto righteousness, and
with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.” (Romans 10: 9-10)
Pray this prayer: God, I admit I have sinned. I believe Jesus your Son loves me and died on the cross for my sins. I am sorry for my sins, and turn from them. Right now, I receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
Second you need to know God has forgiven you, if you really meant this prayer. Then you will need to realize what has happened is past. We cannot live in the past. Paul said, forgetting those things that are behind. He had a lot of bad past! God has forgiven us, when we ask Him to do this, 1 John 1:9. Now, start praying that God will heal you. He can use medicine also, Luke in the Bible was a doctor.
If you want more help in this area, write again and we will suggest things that can help. You need to forget the past and start living each day as a new day! We will be praying for you. Brother Gary and Sister Marlene

I ended up in the ER last year for a really painful rash and I just got my results last week because I forgot about following up with my doctor about it and it’s confirmed I’ve got it. The one person I’ve been with and its my husband he cheated on me and gave it to me. I’m filing for divorce.
Gary Panell says
Hi Helen, Here are some verses that might help: 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Gal 5:7,8
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife (her husband) for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. Mt. 5:32
Brother Gary
Jojo says
Is cheating on your wife not sexual immorality?
Gary Panell says
Hi Jojo, Yes, it is according to Bible, it called adultery. Look at the 10 commandments. Exodus 20:14 I hope this helps. Brother Gary

Helen, I am sorry to hear the pain this has caused you. I’m sure God can speak clearly to you in this matter, speak to Him! And may you have ears to listen, it would be wise to listen.
I should note that 1 out of 6 people may carry the virus and some don’t know for years and years! I don’t know your circumstances but I pray you talk with God on this matter. As Christian I know my life has no meaning for it is in the hand of God. Once you give your life and stop controlling you’re life, God gives you life! A life that no matter what happens you have peace that surpasses all understanding, knowing Him, and He will make your paths straight! May God bless you and keep you, always.

Thanks Josh, good comments. Brother Gary

I am trusting in God to project me and heal her, but I am also getting conflicting information that even marrying her is adultery. Please help.

Hi Manuel, It is not adultery to marry her, and you can talk to a doctor about how to live with a partner who has herpes. Brother Gary

Hello brothers and sisters.
I’ve accepted JESUS as my Lord and savior and have been a faithful follower for many years now. I recently began to show signs of herpes but I have yet to see a doctor. My girlfriend has been checked and she does have herpes. I believe GOD has a plan for all of us and as it says in Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” We can look at this as an opportunity to help others with this disease. Not only can we all get healed but we can help our brothers and sisters get healed. I will pray for everybody with herpes and would love to receive a prayer as well.
We are not alone, GOD will heal us as it says in Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” keep your head up and be strong with the strength GOD has provided us. May the Lord be with us all. Amen

Hello. I developed sores 15 years ago after I was very promiscuous following a divorce. The test for herpes was negative. I got sores years later but didn’t go to the doctor. I recently had gotten one and DR says it looks like herpes. I’m waiting on test but I know that has to be what it is. I’ve been single for 16 years and desire marriage but it’s difficult to come to terms that I may never be married and now have less hope because of herpes. I’m a Christian and want to do God’s will but hope is crushed right now. I need support
Gary Panell says
Hi Kelly, we will be praying for you. Here is another article, I think you might like to read: Question: What does the Bible say about herpes?
Answer: Someone might ask, “What is herpes?” Herpes simplex virus can cause symptoms on the mouth (oral herpes) or genitals (genital herpes). About 50 to 80 percent of American adults have oral herpes, which is commonly called cold sores or fever blisters. It is estimated that as many as one in four Americans have genital herpes, a lifelong (but manageable) infection, yet up to 90 percent of those with herpes are unaware they have it. With more than 50 million adults in the US with genital herpes and up to 1.6 million new infections each year, some estimates suggest that by 2025 up to 40% of all men and half of all women could be infected.
Having genital herpes makes it easier to acquire and/or transmit HIV, a virus that can cause AIDS. Transmission is caused by close oral, anal, or genital contact, including intercourse, masturbation, kissing, or any direct skin-to-skin contact which allows for the transmission of bodily fluids.
Here is the experience of a 18 years old female from Trinidad: “I’ll never forget my first outbreak. The pain and irritation it was terrible. Now I don’t have it anymore but I still worry that it may affect my family plans in the future.”
You ask what does the Bible have to say about herpes, and my answer would be it does not use the word “herpes” but it does talk about diseases. We need to understand that when Adam and Eve sinned they brought all sorts of evils into this world. These evils came from Satan. Diseases are in the world and all of us are affected by them. Does that mean that everyone that gets a disease has sinned?
No, the Bible is very clear on that point; let’s look at what it has to say. “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.’” (John 9:1-3)
So Jesus made it clear that all diseases are not necessarily the fault or result of sin of the individual. Sickness and diseases are in the world as a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, but not always as a result of the individual’s sin. Look at this verse also: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:14-15) So some people who are sick have not gotten their disease because of their own sin.
Then again there are verses that make it clear that some people’s disease or sickness’ are caused by their own personal sin. “But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, ‘See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” (John 5:13-14)
If a person is involved in sex outside of marriage he or she can expect to get STDs. “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man (woman) does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his (her) own body. (1 Corinthians 6:18) That is not to say that any and everyone that is infected with herpes or other diseases did something to deserve getting it. Let me give an example. Suppose a spouse has always been righteous in their life, but they are married to someone who contacted herpes, this disease can be passed on to an innocent party. As a result of someone else’s sin the spouse may get herpes or STDs. This is true of other diseases such as AIDS which could be passed to the unborn. Did the unborn sin that they were born with the disease? No, of course not, as Jesus pointed out. However, sin of one individual can and does affect the innocent around them, just as Adam and Eve’s first sin affects us still today. Now all of us are born with sickness of sin in our lives.
Can Jesus help in this situation? Yes, He certainly can, and wants to! When He was here on this earth He went around healing all sorts of diseases. His Holy Spirit is still doing the same today! Scripture says of Jesus ministry: “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)
The world will tell you that it is alright go ahead and have “safe sex,” everyone else is doing it. The problem with this philosophy is that it is dead wrong. The only “safe sex” is being faithful to your spouse in marriage. You see, even if you avoided getting STDs, one day you will have to answer to God for every action. If a person sins their sin is first and foremost against God. He is the one who created us, and we are responsible to Him.
“Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18) You may be laden down with sin, but Jesus will forgive you and make you as white as snow on the inside. He also says to you: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Maybe you have been deceived by the Devil’s lies, that you can have sex outside of marriage or be involved in extramarital affairs and all will be fun with no consequences. Like the world says: “If it feels good, do it.” But now you realize that these were lies of Satan, sin does have consequences, and you want to come to Christ for forgiveness. God loves you and wants to save you. Ask Him to forgive you for your sin, and ask Him to save you from your sin and He will. He will make your life new and clean. He will give you a fresh start. He will make your soul as white as snow, won’t you receive Jesus now?

Hi Kelly. I have a Christian friend/ brother he is has the same condition. He is saved and is suffering from a lot of anxiety because he can’t find a partner to marry. It must be very hard to break the news to someone. He is suffering somewhat and i wonder if he’d ever meet a Christian lady with the same condition?
I know the Lord is in control, the Lord can heal if it be his will. It would be good.

Hi M, I have the same issue, a lot of anxiety now, even though I’ve lived with this for over 20 years. I was recently talking to a Christian man who said he would accept anything from my past, and I mean anything. He was okay if I was in prison, a drug addict, had sex with a thousand men, the list goes on and on. None of these things are true, btw. He just said he was okay with it if that was my past. But when I told him about the H, he completely changed, his whole demeanor, as if I told him I had the deadliest plague on the planet. It really broke my heart. Sadly, after 20 years, Christians are the most judgmental with this condition I’ve found. Makes me feel like I have to either be unequally yoked or single forever. Now I’m afraid to try again. I wish someone would start a Christian with herpes site or support group or something so we don’t feel so alone and maybe have a chance of finding someone who won’t judge us to death.

Still seeking God’s healing after my intital analysts of HSV2 (in 2007) I lived with It for nearly 3 years. After experiencing a supernatural incounter with Christ that has healed me in 2011 making me have zero symptoms and even after giving birth to my now 5 year old healthy daughter, even having a negative blood analysis! I made my life style around being healed from this desiase. Recently married and still newly wedded I had a new outbreak after so many years nearly 7 years of no medications and almost 11 years from my first initial appointment of my positive results. Until now I was under educated and didn’t have a clue that this Virus could go “dormant “ until now. Please keep yourself educated. As I have a new guilt towards my husband. Thankful with God he has been understanding. But As of now please pray for myself and my husband as we face a new challenge of our marriage. I never in a thousand years would I keep this from any of my partners in the time frame that I knew I was infected. But I still have faith in God’s word and his healing power may our Lord in heaven pour out his grace and mercy upon us and all desires of our hearts and heal our sicknesses In JESUS might name Amen!

Thank you for sharing your testimony Ita. Yes, we do believe in healing, but also, Paul has something you need to read in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10. Be blessed, Brother Gary

I was diagnosed with HSV 1 and HPV. I had been separated from my husband for over a year and was in the process of divorcing him. He was verbally abusive to our children and myself. I found a relationship that made me feel wanted and loved. It ended with me breaking out in hsv and hpv. I am saved and knew I was wrong while I was doing it. I am now paralyzed with the fear that I will be alone forever. That fear cripples me. I have asked God to forgive me and I know he has but I am still so afraid that I will never experience real love and companionship here on earth. I also suffer from depression/anxiety. Please pray for me.

I am saved and believe in Jesus but I’m very depressed and disappointed in myself.

I’ll stop by Calvary Chapel this Sunday. Please pray for God to increase my faith in His promises. Reading your reply yesterday was like a balm in my heart. I want to receive God’s blessings even if I’ve made a mistake. This happened during a dark time. 2 years ago when I left God for a few months. Never could I have imagined something like this happening. I’ve served God all my life and youth. At age 26 this is a bit crazy. It pays to stay close to Jesus. It’s just crazy when I think of the amount of people that live a life of sin. And in one mistake my life is changed in this way.
Devin says
Hi,
My name is Devin and I was recently diagnosed with Herpes type 2 and I’m at a loss for words. I only slept with one person and I foolishly thought he could possibly be the one. I was heartbroken when I found out and now I’m just lost, numb and scared. I’m so in love with God and everything he does in and around my life but I don’t know how to tell my parents. They can’t physically help my situation so I know it would just be heartbreaking that their babygirl messed up so bad. I also don’t want to tell any of my church leaders. I don’t want to be ostracized or not be able to serve within the church because of a taboo. 🙁
I’m only 20 and I feel so alone. I want to have a family, a Godly husband and healthy children.
I guess I’m just asking for prayer over my life. I believe in Jeremiah 29:11 and I hope the desires of my heart for wanting a husband and a family will line up with God’s plan for me amd His kingdom.
The conversations in the comments have been therapeutic to read and I appreciate all the verses that I have read on this page as well.
Praying for healing or a misdiagnosis would be amazing but I really need prayer for peace and comfort ,
Thank you so much
Gary Panell says
Hi Devin, Your parents and the leaders of the church you are in were young people one day. They made mistakes and sinned, maybe not in the same way as you have, but other ways too, if they will be honest. You have to forget what is behind, like Paul did and look forward to what God will do for you 1 John 1:9 says, God will forgive us if we confess our sins to Him. You can still have children, but you will have to be careful to keep them from your disease. There is medicine for it to keep it from the babies when you start to have children. The doctor will need to know that you have it, so they can help with medicine. Praying, God will help you all along the way. Now you know how serious the decisions we make are. Decide right now that you will be like Enosh, of Genesis 4:26 and Enoch of Genesis chapter 5. You will lead the rest of you family and your life for Him. We are praying for you! God bless you as you serve Him. Sister Marlene, and Brother Gary

I really feel like giving it up kids need me and I will disappoint and hurt alot of people if I am gone. Why have I done this terrible mistake?
Gary Panell says
Hi Eric, You must know 1 John 1:9 if you have been a Christian for 20+ years. You need to read it and pray it with all your heart. God will keep His Word, will you keep your word this time? You have to face the consequences with your wife. If you love her and she loves you, you have to be honest with each other, or it will come back to bite you. You don’t have to give all the little details, but you need to be honest with her! Ask your wife to forgive you, and move on with your life together. You need to start praying together, reading the Bible together. Also, you will need to go to church every time the church doors are open. Ask others to pray for you, they are your brothers and sisters in Christ. We will pray here. God loves you, trust Him with your life from here on out. He knows best! You can read some other articles on our website about herpes and what to do. Look for these on the Bible-Christian.org search engine. God bless you and keep you! Brother Gary

Hi Asia, we will be praying for you. First, realize God loves you, John 3:16, that Jesus died for you 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; that you can believe this Acts 16:31, you will be saved, and your family that you will have in the future. This is the word God wants me to share with you. Then rejoice in the Lord, and again, I say rejoice, your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, Philippians 4:3b. Brother Gary

Thanks for your reply and advice, Brother Gary. Thanks for giving me this 1 John 1:9. Pls continue to pray for me as the way forward is very hard for me. I am suffering the symptoms (frequent fever, leg and arms numbness, burning, backache, etc). I am truly sorry for what I have done and I confess to God every of my sins and surrender everything to Him. I need His strength, grace and mercy be upon me every second of my life now. I need Him and I need Holy Spirit in me to deliver me. I loved my family and wife alot and I hope they will give me change and for God to speak to them to forgive me for what I have done. I have built up this happy family over the years and it just took one mistake to destroy. I hold on to the cross and Bible every night to sleep although I can’t sleep well because of the worry, guilt, etc. It pains me to see my family sitting together and chatting happily as this will definitely change once the truth is known to my wife. I am so scared and I know that I need to commit and cast all my worries to Him. I need Him to guide me and be with me every second of my life. I will hold on dearly to Him. Only God can save me. Pls pls pray for me. Thanks.

Brother Gary. Can u and everyone here also help to pray for protection over my family as I take care the children of their daily tasks, giving them supplements, preparing them for bed, pray for them at night, fetching them to school, etc. I am in close contact with them and I am very careful to wash my hands regularly and avoid anything that may spread the virus. Pls pray that Jesus will keep the virus away from them. Thanks.
Eric says

Gary Panell says
Hi John, You are not a monster or a mistake. You are special and unique, and Jesus loved you enough to die for you. John 3:16.
Your life is not over, and you only need to asked God’s forgiveness, 1 John 1:9 As far as the herpes, God can help you with these, if you have herpes. But you need to get them checked out and see for sure what they are. Find a good Bible believing church and fellowship with other Christians. Wait on God for the woman He has for you. Write when you get a chance, Gary.
Adrienne Troup says
My name is Adrienñe Troup and I’ve been diagnosed with Herpes 1 and 2. I have been Promiscuous my whole teenage and adult life. I am 22 and I know that I’ve asked Jesus (Yeshua) to wash all my sins away, turn me from my sinful ways and it’s done. I denounce this disease and I denounce every evil spirit attached to it assigned to me by Satan. I already believe that I’m healed, well partially believe and I just ask for encouragement and nothing but love through my journey to health. I pray whoever is suffering this “disease” to know that Jesus loves us and there is a cure and he can heal us but remember God is in control is everything is in his own timing. I began to fast , pray as best as I can, and read the word and take care of myself. God will heal me and he will heal you too. I love you all and please know that God looks at the heart.
Gary Panell says
Hi Adrienne, Yes, if we have asked Jesus to save us from our sins, He will do this. Then starts the healing spiritually and physically, body, soul, and spirit. Praying for you and all like you who have trusted Jesus to save you. Brother Gary
Ann says
Thank you so much for this message. I’ve been questioning God’s love for me trying to cope with this recent diagnosis also wondering if I were to be healed. But you’ve reminded me that regardless of it all, God still loves me, His grace is sufficient and my mistake I have repented of is forgiven. I’m currently going through a divorce and thought I found love….which resulted in a shameful situation of contracting genital herpes that has made me feel unworthy. I continue to pray everyday but I thank you that even when I begin to get discouraged, you remind me that I can find truth in God’s word. I do continue to pray for healing, however, after reading your message…I’m reminded that God is still in control. Whether I get the answer I want or not.
Gary Panell says
Hi again Ann, Thank you so much for your kind comments. All of have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but we are thankful for His forgiveness and grace. Keep on trusting Jesus, He loves us and always will even though others will let us down. Look for a good Bible believing church if you don’t have one. Pray for the one God has for you, if you are to be married. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and He will give us the desires of our heart. God bless you, your brother Gary
Amanda says
Hi Gary. Please pray for me as I am awaiting results for herpes test. I have seen God’s miraculous healing in my life before and I know he heals by faith. I have been reading Luke 7 and believing he will bring back negative results. I am speaking it non stop. I have been strong in my faith lately but made a mistake 2 weeks ago. I need additional prayer. Thank you!
Gary Panell says
Hi Amanda, What did you find out? Brother Gary
Renee says
I am requesting prayer. Although I have had herpes for over 15 years I still struggle emotionally. I am so afraid of the impact this diagnosis will have on future relationships. I just pray that I find someone who will love me for me.
Gary Panell says
Hi Renee, Jesus loves you for who you are! As far as a husband, you want to wait on the Lord Jesus and pray that He send you the perfect person for you. As far as the herpes is concerned, did you read the article on herpes. Herpes can be controlled by medicine. Also, we are not to fear anything. Fear is from Satan not God. 1 John 4:4 I will pray for you. Brother Gary
Melissa says
Hi my name is Melissa and I recently tested positive for hsv2 a high positive of 13.5. I have been with the same man for well over 5 years. He was tested and doesn’t have it. The doctors say that I could have had it for many years and never knew about it. I have never had symptoms. My heart is hurting so bad. My love is thinking about leaving me. He says he doesn’t think he can deal with the possibility that I could give it to him. Iam so scared. He is such a wonderful man and since we have been together the happiness that we both share together feels so good. I have always felt like god sent us to each other and now it could all be over because of something I never knew I had. Please help me. Please tell me what to say to him so that love takes place of this virus.
Gary Panell says
Melissa, hi, you have to be up front with him, and trust God. He has dealt with it for five years when he didn’t know that you had it. If you are careful when you have signs, and find out how to be safe, he should be willing to stay with you. Now, are you married? Or do you mean you have been husband and wife for five years. I hope this helps. Brother Gary Proverbs 3:5,6″Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding…”
Melissa says
Hi. No we are not married and I feel like I’m being punished because of it. I have never been unfaithful. He tested negative and I tested positive. I never have had any symptoms and I didn’t know. I am terrified that he will not be able to handle this mentally knowing that I might pass this to him one day. He has been up all night for a week straight not being able to sleep because this is on his mind. I don’t know what to say to him or what not to say. I don’t want to make it worse for him. Seeing him in the depression state he is in because of me telling him this news hurts my heart so bad. I told him what the doctor said that it’s an old infection and I have had it for years and just never knew. I told him the doctor said that I just have the virus and that I don’t have an active infection. He listens but I can tell his heart hurts. We live together and I have a daughter that he takes care of just like she is his. He has children as well that I take care of like they are mine. Everything was great until this happened. Marriage was coming and I hope it still does. What do I say what do I do to make him feel better. What can I say to give him understanding. It hurts me so bad that I have this. Although doctors say there are ways to prevent him from getting it I just don’t know how to get him to believe and trust that we can get through this. I’m so lost. I keep praying and praying but this one hurts
Tonia says
Please pray for me as well as I am really going through it emotionally. I get so stressed thinking about how a potential partner will take the news of me having Hsv 2. I was diagnosed in 2011. It’s to the point where I thought about taking my own life, but I am a firm believer in god and I know that I cannot do that. I hope that I am able to move on and god sends me someone who is accepting.
Gary Panell says
Hi Tonia, Be up front with a would be partner, you will know if they are the right one for you be their reactions. Also, know that we know people with this same thing and God is helping them, even to getting married. Trust God! Brother Gary
Ian says
Thank you for the biblical encouragement. . The word is living and active …discerning the heart and it’s intentions. Thankful for this and all the other people posting.
I’ve lived a fairly pure life until last year when I made some poor decisions and this my consequence of positive test results.
It is hard to think about when desiring to be married and to have a family and not knowing if that will happen.
How do you date? How do you break the news? How can you get married?
I keep getting led back to proverbs 3 were God tells us not to lean on our own understanding but to acknowledge God in ALL your ways and He will make your path straight.
I’m torn because I know God is calling me to fully submit my heart to Him, to love Him above anything, and to stop seeking for a wife or trying to fill the empty places with things that bare no fruit….but rather hurt and harm and leave me empty.
I have been through some dark places in my life and walk and in those dark dark places I have heard God say “I’m right here” and have experienced warfare over me ending with Christ busting through the door and with command saying NO!!! This is my son!!! And he is mine!! (This was directly after falling into sin)
Why I say this is to encourage anyone here to call on Jesus and to know that He is there even in the darkest! Exactly what this article says …we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God….even on out “best” days on our self perceived “holiest” and “righteous” pious days…we still cannot measure up. Christ’s righteousness and blood we have received by faith…and is a gift from God! In John we read how we were not made sons and daughter of our awesome God by our choice!!! No! Rather by Gods choice!
He loves you!! And wants to be on a relationship with you!! He gives us that choice… He has already said Yes!!! To you and is asking will you says it back?
Will you let go of the past? Of the things you strive for to feel good? To feel wanted and love? To feel accepted and wanted? Will you come to me?
I encourage everyone to do some deep heart searching…go to a good Christian councilor to dig deep.
Don’t be afraid cause in the other end is healing for your soul which is way more important than healing from herp. Which can happen but I say this ….healing can become an idol…marriage …kids…love and having intimacy and sex …idols.
I am def not perfect and haven’t figured it all out but am just sharing the journey I have been on and going through right now in hopes to show there is life!! Life outside of this…and not to let the enemy whisper shame despair and lies to hinder you from experiencing the Love and Power Christ has and is, to transform your life!
To my brothers and sisters in Christ you are still valuable beautifully and wonderfully made and precious in His sight! Lay hold of the Word of God, speak His truths over yourself (literally…look in the mirror and speak the truths of God overyourself!) don’t give up and keep pressing forward! I know great things are ahead …your not done yet!! In Jesus name…and I can say this from being in the crippling place of despair…
Being in that dark place like in the bottom of a pit and I know Gods the way even tho i still choose to lay in my despair… choosing sin…choosing to wallow. This I say give yourself grace….it’s okay to be there…just please don’t stay there!!
Okay so just wanted to share that! 🙂 you are loved and it’s not over! It’s hard…but it ain’t over!
All the Glory to the Lord!
Gary Panell says
Hi Ian, I wanted to say, “Amen!” to your letter. Brother Gary
Carol says
please keep me in your prayers I want to keep my test results back negative of all STDs/STIs. About 3 months I had herpes symptoms that sent me to the ER and they diagnosed me by looking and took a swab. That actual swab results came back as an error and I needed to be re-swabbed, but the lesions were gone. I’m young I really want to get married, have kids, and finish college off strong. I can’t go through a full day without the constant thought this virus. I wake up out of my sleep researching the virus and praying for healing if I have the virus. I’ve called prayer hotlines. I’m just at a very low point. I can’t live like this. I understand how I’ve sinned and I promise to change as I already have I just want to be virus free.
Gary Panell says
Hi Carol, Yes, God does heal, and sometimes he uses doctors to heal us thru medicine. Either way we trust God everyday. I had cancer, thru prayer and an operation by a Christian doctor, I am cancer free. He even prayed for me before he did the operation. I praise God. As far as not forgiving yourself that is not a good thing, because in 1 John 9, it says if we confess our sins to Him, He forgives us. Believe God and His Word, and move on into helping others. Brother Gary
Gary Panell says
Yes, Carol, read 1 John 1:9, and understand that He will forgive you when you confess your sins. Then keep praying for healing. I had a to have an operation because I HAD cancer, but now I don’t. I had the church pray for me and also the doctor that did the operation was a Christian, and he prayed for me before the operation. Many years later, I am still cancer free. God can heal any disease, it is all the same to Him. Keep trusting, Brother Gary

I want to first thank God for this article as it is helpful to know we are not alone. I’ve had 2 relationships in my life with men who who were not the right person for me. I have hsv1 and 2 . I am saved though still live with guilt. I was 99% sure and ok with being alone for the rest of my life until someone came into my life who I told and he did not care. He just says “we will figure it out”. We love each other so much and will spend the rest of our lives together be it Gods will. We are not legally married. Please pray for us as we ask God to be part of our union everyday. Please pray for my man that he will be protected from this and please pray for me to let this guilt and worry go. The outbreaks cause me so much worry.
Gary Panell says
Hi Mary, We will be praying for you and the one God has for you. You will want to get into the Word of God each day and spend time in prayer. Look for a good Bible believing Church that is friendly. We enjoy going to Calvary Chapel, they have these almost everywhere. You will need to get on line to find out where the nearest one is. God bless you for your nice comments and for your desire to serve God. Brother Gary

Hello, please pray for me. I contracted this disease from the father of my son. Not knowing I had it. I believe I gave it to someone else. My sons father when he seen I was moving on told me he gave me the virus and told me it was my karma.once I moved on with someone else. I went to get tested. And found out I had it. I love the person I’m with and I do not know how to tell them. Please pray my strength in the love. That my self and partner are healed.
Gary Panell says
