Question: I’m a Christian man and I’m in love with a Muslim girl. She’s [at] work with me. I’ve never thought of being married [with] her because I’m living in a country that prohibits Christian men marrying Muslim women, so I’m just loving her. The problem is that from the time I felt emotions towards her, I felt things going upside down in my life and I started thinking that this might be God’s voice for me to stop loving her. So, could it be so and if true, what can I do? It’s very difficult to get rid of this love because we see each other nearly everyday in our job. So is love with an unsuitable partner a sin, even pure love? Please help me.
Answer: Scripture says that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them and walk among them, I will be their God and they shall be My people. Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.'” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
Unless the girl you are interested in is also a Christian, that would be unequally yoked together. You can be friends with a non-Christian, but God does not want a Christian to enter into a binding relationship with a non-Christian.
First of all, you should pray for this girl. Perhaps God can even use you to lead her to Christ. Second, you need to pray that God will bring the girl into your life that He plans for you to marry. Go places where Christian girls are, such as church and Bible studies.
Third, if this girl is a temptation, then perhaps you need to ask God for a different job where you won’t come into contact with her everyday. God wants the very best for you, don’t settle for anything less. Memorize Scripture that will help you when you become tempted. Remain faithful to God and His Word.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
