Question: Is alcohol addiction a disease?
Answer: I know that today a lot of people call alcohol addiction a disease, but according to the Bible it is a sin. It is such a serious sin that a person who is a drunkard is on their way to hell, unless they repent of this sin. “But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother [or sister], who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner- not even to eat with such a person.” (1 Corinthians 5:11)
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
The good news is as verse 11 says, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11) So we can be forgiven for drunkenness and alcohol addiction. I am thankful God forgave me of alcohol addiction and has helped me stay sober for many years now.
I have written an article that has helped a lot of people in this area of alcohol addiction, you might want to check it out for yourself or send it to someone who needs this study. It is called, Is it alright for Christians to drink alcohol?
Thanks for the question and God bless you,
