Question: Our friends are allowing their son and his girlfriend to live together in their house without being married. How are we to approach the subject and show them that it’s inappropriate for the kids to live together?
Answer: I do have to apologize for taking so long to answer this question for you. I was hoping that you would see our other questions and answers that are similar to your question. Here is what the Bible has to say about the subject. “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” (Hebrews 13:4)
The world today considers it normal to live together before marriage, but God says He will punish all those who do this, especially if they claim to be Christians. Some people think that since we are over two thousand years removed from the time that this was written, that it is no longer necessary to keep God’s laws. The moral laws of God are still just as much in effect as are the natural laws of nature. If we break any of the laws of God, we will pay the consequences!
There is a DVD that I would highly recommend for everyone. It is called “Sex has a Price Tag” by Pam Stenzel. “It is a compelling look at sex in the new millennium.” Pam says, “People today are faced with a raging plague of sex related problems. Pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and rape statistics are at alarming highs.
“Even so, today’s society encourages sexual activity, and young people must have a compelling reason to commit to sexual abstinence. In “Sex has a Price Tag,” renowned speaker Pam Stenzel combines her personal story and extensive pregnancy counseling experience into a hard hitting look at the consequences of sexual activity outside a monogamous lifetime commitment.
“In a captivating and inspiring talk, Pam tackles the tough issues of sex with candor, insight and humor while challenging young people to embrace the benefits of abstinence.
“Pam Stenzel earned her degree in psychology from Liberty University. She is the former Director of the Alpha Women’s Center and is the Founder of Enlighten Communications, Inc. Pam Stenzel is an international communicator speaking to over 500,000 teens and parents each year.” If you would like to book Pam or would like more information, please call TimeLine Management at 800-786-8283, or visit [them] online at www.pamstenzel.com (This webpage will show you a demonstration of her talk and give you a way to purchase some of her videos) You can see and hear some of her talk at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0ezYNWIDB0 Type in Pam Stenzel in the search box. There are 6 parts altogether of her talk. I would recommend any teenager or their parents to watch this. It is very enlightening.
- You can also look at our other answers: Question: Christian dating, courting, and struggles with lust.
- Question: What does the Bible say about “LOVE” among youngsters, which is spreading as a plague?
- Question: Is it ok for me to spend the night with my boyfriend on the weekends? It’s not about sex, it’s just about being near each other, since we don’t have a lot of time to give each other during the week, since we both work full time. I want to start living with my boy friend, we are planning on getting engaged within the next 6 months. What does the Bible say about living with someone before marriage?
Besides giving your friends the verse of Scripture, I would suggest the above answers and send for the DVD by Pam Stenzel. I know you will not be disappointed with it. I have seen the DVD several times and would highly recommend it. These are some of the suggestions I would make. Also, keep them in your prayers until God puts them under conviction of sin, which is what we are talking about when there is sex before marriage.
Hope this helps,
