Iran claims Saudis dare not carry out a ground attack on Syria
The Iranians, like Russia are allies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. They claim they are providing advisory assistance to Damascus.
Tasnim news agency questioned Mohammad al Jafari, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, who claimed the Saudi’s don’t have the capability to send in troops.
“The Saudis may want to do something through the air with American and other equipment in order to strengthen terrorists against the Syrian people and army but these measures will have no results,” he said.
Jafari dismissed the threats as propaganda.
In recent weeks, Saudi officials offered ground support in Syria. They have also organized military exercises, called “Northern Thunder”, with a coalition of more than 20 Arab and Muslim countries.
There is already a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia in Yemen.
Relations between the two nations was further complicated recently with the Saudi execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr, as reported by TRUNEWS.
