Syria and surrounding countriesIn the face of war and opposition by Islamic extremists, a persecuted Christian in Syria says believers are joyfully serving the Lord.

The civil war in Syria has been difficult for all citizens, especially for the Christians who are being targeted in small towns, churches, and parts of major cities, according to Open Doors USA. But despite the difficulties, Pastor Edward in Damascus says they are encouraged to see the hand of the Lord intervening in a supernatural way as they help others.

“It’s deep joy that we’ve discovered through serving and ministering to others,” he shares. “All of a sudden, our lives have different, deeper significance, and we feel that we are impacting other people — needy, hurting people — and making an eternal difference in their lives.”

The pastor tells OneNewsNow they are experiencing divine appointments. In the past, they did not have many opportunities to share with others, but now it is the other way around.

“People come and approach us … asking for answers and asking us for a piece of advice or encouragement from the Word of God,” the pastor accounts.

Pastor Edward says they are grateful that God is using the church in Syria to make an impact and bring Glory to Jesus.

Syria is currently ranked sixth on Open Doors’ World Watch List for Christian persecution.
