Question: You should rethink your theory of a Satan, and demons running around, not to mention the notion that there is a hell!!! How can a God be all loving, all forgiving, all knowing, and create me full well knowing I will reject his beliefs, and then damn me to a fiery hell forever [?]
Not my God, maybe yours, mine loves me no matter my mistakes, or beliefs, and will welcome me to heaven. I believe people in that day, the Catholic church, needed to instill fear to gain control. I hope one day you can release your fear and know you will go to the other side no matter your mistakes, even if you haven’t had a chance to ask for forgiveness.
I find it odd your knowledge of “Satan.” How are demons privy to knowledge only God knows according to you [?] Is God letting him in on some secrets just to trip us up [?]
Realistically, do you really invest your life of fear to a group of “leaders” who control what you read and believe for hundreds of years that just gradually becomes the bible [?]
I believe that a lot of the recording of history is accurate, and the interpretation of messages from God are just that, and most likely made to suit the authorities of that era, when little if no resistance from those lower to challenge the laws. I’m sorry you have to worry you might not make it in, could your God be so cruel?
Answer: This was the response we received from an individual after reading our article on Mediums, Psychics, and “Spiritualism.” Thank you for taking the time to write to us, many who disagree with us would never stop to put into words what they believe.
To answer your first belief that there is no Satan, demons, or a need for God to have a hell, let me quote to you what just happened in Washington State over the Christmas season of 2007.
SEATTLE (AP) — Judy Anderson was wrapping presents for her family on Christmas Eve when gunfire erupted in her living room and her own daughter began a bloodbath that left Anderson and five other members of her family dead, prosecutors said.
Anderson ran into the room and saw her daughter’s boyfriend shoot her husband of 38 years, Wayne, prosecutors alleged as they filed aggravated first-degree murder charges Friday.
Judy Anderson started screaming and Joe MeEnroe turned his gun on her. She fell to the floor, not yet dead. McEnroe apologized and shot her again, this time in the head, according to a police affidavit.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said long-standing bitterness and a perceived family debt might have been factors in the shootings. But Satterberg said he was at a loss to assign a motive to the crime that police say McEnroe and Michele Anderson have admitted committing.
“In the end, what motive could you find that would make sense of the senseless slaying of the Anderson family?” Satterberg said.
Satterberg’s account of the crime and a police affidavit portray a Christmas Eve that exploded in gunfire and bloodshed, leaving three generations of a family dead.
“In the span of one hour, the defendants had turned this family’s Christmas Eve celebration into a scene of mass murder,” Satterberg said as he charged Anderson and McEnroe with the only crime punishable by death in Washington.
Satterberg has 30 days to decide whether to seek the death penalty.
According to court documents, after killing her parents, Anderson and McEnroe, both 29, dragged the bodies to a shed outside the rural Carnation home and mopped up the blood with towels and carpets, according to court documents. They burned some of the evidence in a backyard fire pit, reloaded their weapons and waited for Michele’s brother and his family to arrive.
When Scott Anderson, 32, walked in the door, he spotted his sister with a gun and charged her. Michele Anderson and McEnroe shot him multiple times. Michele then shot her sister-in-law, Erica, 32, who still managed to climb over a couch and call 911.
An operator at the 911 calling center picked up the call, but Erica did not speak before McEnroe tore the phone from her hands and destroyed it.
Huddling with her children, Erica Anderson pleaded with McEnroe not to shoot her, saying: “You don’t have to do this.” McEnroe told her: “Yes, we do,” “and shot her in the head, according to the affidavit.
He then shot 6-year-old Olivia before turning to 3-year-old Nathan, who had picked up the batteries from the cordless phone his mother had used in her futile attempt to call for help.
“McEnroe told detectives that Nathan held the batteries up in one hand and gave’…the look of complete comprehension…as if he understood.” McEnroe than fired one last bullet through Nathan’s head, according to the affidavit.
When asked why he shot Erica. Olivia and Nathan, McEnroe told detectives three times: “I didn’t want them to turn us in,” according to the affidavit…”
After reading something like this, I cannot understand why someone does not see that there really is a Satan, demons and a need for hell. How could God be a God of love unless He is also a God of justice? Does the God, you say you worship, allow people to do such things as this, and just get off scot free?
God has to punish every sin that comes into His universe or else He would cease being God! This is why Jesus had to die, this is the only hope of any forgiveness in this world, is through the blood Jesus shed on the cross for us. Jesus died for us because every sin has to be punished.
If you want a detailed discussion of hell, look at our article on this. But you need to know I didn’t make up the information, it comes from Jesus and other Bible writers. So if you have a disagreement with the fact of hell you need to take it up with God. Here are just two verses on the subject, in Jesus own words: “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28) “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels…” (Matthew 25:41)
Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels (demons), but those who follow Satan will end up where he is. This, of course is, if they will not repent (turn from sin) and receive the free pardon for sin that Christ offers as a result of His death on the cross. Look at our tract on “What does it mean to be born again?”
You say that it is the Catholic Church that “needed to instill fear to gain control.” It is not the Catholic Church that thought up the place called hell. God knew that there would be those who would not accept His pardon for sin, and would go their own way, so He had to have a place for them. There they have to pay for their own sins, and will be forever separated from those in heaven. Would you really want unrepentant sinners running around in heaven? What kind of heaven are you planning on going to? It doesn’t sound like heaven to me, if we have people like Hitler and all sorts of unrepentant sinners there!
We have to remember as we speak about sin, that we are all sinners, but some have been saved by grace. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9)
There are physical laws on this earth like gravity, and if you disobey this law or the others you will suffer the consequences. For example, it does not matter how much you do not believe in the law of gravity or how much you dislike it, it still is there and those who violate it will pay. So too, with the spiritual laws of God, if we break them, we will have to suffer the consequences. The Word of God says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” (Galatians 6:6-7)
The Bible when it talks about the flesh, it means the things that are of the devil or Satan. Here is a list of those things that are considered to be in the flesh, as given by St. Paul, “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21)
So dear friend look at it this way, if I am wrong about there being a hell (which I am not, because God does not lie), what do I have to lose? On the other hand if you are wrong, what do you have to lose?
The next part of the question I would like to answer is this: “I find it odd your knowledge of “Satan.” How are demons privy to knowledge only God knows according to you [?] Is God letting him in on some secrets just to trip us up [?]
Here is what I said in the article on Mediums, Psychics, and “Spiritualism“: “Can someone really tell you your future? Satan knows some things that we do not know, but most of the time, I believe, he is just guessing, or making general statements. Only God knows the end from the beginning. However, there may be some information that the spirits (demons) are privy too that we do not know yet.
For example, a demon might know whether a lover is going to propose to someone. This person may have been talking about it to family members or friends and the demons overheard it. (I am not sure if they can read our thoughts or not, even though they can give suggestions to our minds.) So a spirit could reveal to a Medium or Psychic the information they know. This information can be passed on to the persons inquiring of a Medium or Psychic, for a price, of course.”
I think this answer is rather straight forward, Satan and demons are spirit beings with more power and intelligence than we have. So they can trick us if we don’t know the Word of God like we should. We still have a choice in the matter. Remember, for those of you who are old enough to remember this, Flip Wilson used to say in jest, the devil made me do it! No, no one can make us do anything, we have a choice in the matter.
The last part of your question that I would like to address is this: “Realistically, do you really invest your life of fear to a group of “leaders” who control what you read and believe for hundreds of years that just gradually becomes the bible [?]
I believe that a lot of the recording of history is accurate, and the interpretation of messages from God are just that, and most likely made to suit the authorities of that era, when little if no resistance from those lower to challenge the laws. I’m sorry you have to worry you might not make it in, could your God be so cruel?”
First, it would be great if you could read our article Is there even one mistake in the Bible. And by the way, I don’t live in fear, I live in faith! I would just like to say also that there are no lies in the Bible, it is the inerrant Word of God. It did not gradually become the Word of God, it was God‘s Word, the second God spoke it. I challenge anyone to find a mistake in the Bible. It is one thing to say there are mistakes, but it is another thing to prove it. You would need to read my article that I mentioned earlier before you submit you mistake. The Bible has stood the test of time, and it will for eternity!
Therefore, yes, I put my faith and trust in the Word of God, and I will live by it. One day when we leave this planet, I believe there will be those who go to heaven and those who go to hell. This is what God’s book the Bible says, “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. [This is speaking of those who rejected Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior. They have to take their own punishment in hell.] Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:12-15)
These words are not my own, but God’s. You can believe them and turn from your sin, receive Christ as your personal Savior and have your name written in the Book of Life, and not be cast into the lake of fire. God loves you and that is why He has given man a choice. You can go God’s way or Satan’s way.
St. Paul made it clear that we are all sinners, but some of us have been washed in the blood of Christ. These have their names written in the Book of Life. “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
So now you can choose life eternal through Jesus, or eternal death. The choice is yours, if you want to spend eternity in heaven with us, why not say to God right now: “I am a sinner God, please forgive me for my sin. I believe Jesus died and rose again that I might be saved. Right now I invite Jesus into my spirit, and ask Him to save me, in Jesus name amen.
I trust that you pray this prayer and one day we will meet in heaven,
