A media watchdog isn’t surprised how the mainstream swooned over the appearance of the sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un at the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

It was surreal: on the VIP platform in PyeongChang sat Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen. But nearby, also a guest of the South Koreans, was Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Kim Jong Un. Pence did not shake her hand – but CNN called Pence to task afterwards, whining that he wasn’t nice to the sister of the North Korean leader. And on Monday’s “The View,” the panel trashed Trump for not giving North Korea due “respect” at the games.

Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture at the Media Research Center, isn’t surprised that the left-wing media would swoon over the woman who is director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Worker’s Party of Korea. The Hill says this: “By all accounts, Kim is not just complicit in the atrocities of the North Korean state: she is an enthusiastic participant.”

“You see Reuters running a headline about this woman: ‘Head held high, Kim’s sister returns to North Korea.’ That’s what all the coverage was,” says the MRC spokesman. “The American news media so hate Trump, so hate America, and so hate the West that they will celebrate any evil dictator, any left-wing lunatic, just to get a little snark on Donald Trump.”

CNN’s coverage was so bad, adds Gainor, that there was even criticism from among its own ranks.

“You can find Jake Tapper even criticizing [basically saying]: If you are supporting North Korea to get one over on Trump then you don’t know enough about North Korea,” he describes. “And he tweeted out links to Human Rights Watch and other international bodies that basically show you how insane and monstrous North Korea is.”

Another CNN personality, columnist Salena Zito, tweeted that she is “deeply saddened by how my profession has normalized and glamorized this murderous regime. And then we wonder why no one trusts us.”
