Rowan County’s clerk, Kim Davis, has released her book, “Under God’s Authority: The Kim Davis Story,” which details a decision she made based on her faith and how she as an elected official captured world attention in an epic conflict over marriage. Liberty Counsel Founder Mat Staver tells OneNewsNow the book is based on Davis’s refusal to sign a marriage license for a homosexual pair – a decision that ultimately landed her in jail.

“She ended up being the face around the world defending marriage and religious liberty,” he says. “It’s really an amazing story of how this woman spent six days in jail — the first person to go to jail for their belief in marriage as a union of a man and a woman after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in June of 2015.”

Davis once described her life before coming to Jesus as one spent as a good mother, but not so good otherwise.

“It’s an inspiring and encouraging story, and it’s also a challenge for every one of us to stand … how one person can make a difference with Jesus Christ, and, in fact, how one unlikely candidate was brought into the spotlight and how she weathered the storm,” Staver comments.

He adds that she did that not just for herself, but for all Christians. And as a result, in the aftermath of lawsuits filed against her, the Kentucky Legislature passed a bill to no longer require a county clerk’s signature on marriage licenses.
