(TRUNEWS) The head of Customs and Border Protection has told border patrol agents to agree with President Obama’s amnesty policies or get another job.
Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske said orders from superiors must be followed, reacting to testimony given to Congress last month by Border Patrol labor union chief Brandon Judd. According to the Washington Times, Judd claimed Obama has a “catch and release” policy and agents must follow it. Judd said it makes the administration’s numbers look good when the illegal immigrants don’t make it into the criminal justice system.
Kerlikowske contrasted those statements by claiming every illegal over 14 who is caught by agents is supposed to be fingerprinted, interviewed and turned over to Immigration and Customs enforcement, which would decide on deportation.
“I would not stand by if the Border Patrol was — releasing people without going through all of the formalities,” Mr. Kerlikowske said when he testified before the House Appropriations Committee. He suggested that Judd and others who agree with him should leave.
The vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, Shawn Moran objected to Kerlikowske’s comments.
When it comes to catch and release, Border Patrol agents are the only ones following the law. The commissioner can dress it up any way he likes, but even though we are documenting people, they are being released into American society, never to be seen again,” he said.
