The theme for tonight’s event is “Celebrating God’s Mercy.” Andrea Lafferty with Traditional Values Coalition – one of the ministries hosting the gala – explains the theme.
“We are here to celebrate God’s mercy – His mercy for America,” she shares. “He heard our prayers. This just shows what happens when people stop and they pray they ask the Lord to save our land.”
Lafferty describes the gala as “a launch into a new season” for America. “We’re excited to be the launching evening into a new government and really a new wineskin for America.”
American Family Association and Women for a Great America join TVC as cohosts for the evening – the purpose of which, of course, is to celebrate Friday’s inauguration of Donald J. Trump as 45th President of the United States.
Many evangelicals, including Lafferty, think they had an important hand in bringing about Trump’s victory – with a little divine guidance, of course. Now, she says, it’s up to that faith community to keep working for a more God-honoring country and culture.
“God has given us a second chance,” says the Christian leader, “and it’s really incumbent upon us to decide how we’re going to take this second chance – what we’re going to do with it.”
Asked if she was at all surprised that it’s a Donald Trump inauguration, not one for Hillary Clinton, Lafferty says she started planning this night for Trump months before the November election.
