Target boycott reaches another milestone

The American Family Association’s “Boycott Target” petition has received 1.5 million signatures. AFA’s Walker Wildmon made the announcement earlier today on American Family Radio.

“It has officially reached 1.5 million signatures,” said Wildmon. “So that’s a great victory, it’s a great milestone in what I view is a highly successful boycott of Target.”

The announcement comes one year to the day that Target announced a policy allowing transgender employees and customers to use the bathrooms and changing rooms for the gender with which they say they identify. AFA then announced a boycott, saying the policy puts women and children at risk of sexual predators who take advantage of the transgender policy.

“I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this – I don’t know if I’ve ever said it on the air – but I believe that God has had his hand on this situation from the very beginning because we’ve seen things happen that can only be explained by supernatural means,” Wildmon said on the “Today’s Issues” program.

“Just a couple a weeks ago, The Wall Street Journal decides to circle back around just as we’re needing a little bit of momentum to reach 1.5 million, and the Journal devoted an entire article to the boycott of Target and the kind of internal strife going on with the CEO [of Target].”

According to that WSJ article, the blog announcing Target’s policy was posted without CEO Brian Cornell’s approval. In fact, the Journal reported that Cornell was surprised to learn about it and told colleagues he would not have approved the decision to flaunt the policy, one that several retailers have but do not promote.

Wildmon and his father, AFA president Tim Wildmon, plan to deliver the latest batch to signatures to Target headquarters in Minneapolis. In spring 2016, the Wildmons met with Target representatives and delivered the initial one-million signatures on AFA’s boycott petition.
