Elon Musk will lead Neuralink toward “consensual telepathy”
April 21, 2017

On Thursday Elon Musk said he will lead Neuralink to create “consensual telepathy” between computers and humans
(VERO BEACH, FLA) In an interview with tech blogger Tim Urban, the SpaceX CEO confirmed he will not only lead his fresh startup Neuralink Corp., but also that the rumors he is pursuing the development of technology to merge the human brain with computers is correct.
In March, TRUNEWS reported that Elon Musk founded Neuralink with the express intent to expedite the merger between artificial intelligence and human brains, a shift he himself believes is a necessary evil to save humanity from a robotic takeover.
A Neuralink spokesman confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that Mr. Musk plans to serve as the chief executive of Neuralink, and in a report published Thursday night, the newspaper claimed his route of implementation will first be broached through implanting tiny brain electrodes in the brains of those suffering from degenerative neurological diseases.
During his conversation with Tim Urban in the 36,000 word blog post published to WaitButWhy.com, Musk described for the first time his intent to develop brain interfaces that could potentially replace human language and historical communication methods.
“There are a bunch of concepts in your head that then your brain has to try to compress into this incredibly low data rate called speech or typing,” Mr. Musk told Mr. Urban. “That’s what language is, your brain has executed a compression algorithm on thought, on concept transfer.”
“If you have two brain interfaces, you could actually do an uncompressed direct conceptual communication with another person,” Mr. Musk said, adding that this technology could allow a person to beam an image into someone else’s brain as an alternative to physically describing it with words.

As predicted in March, Mr. Musk told Mr. Urban that he will direct Neuralink to pursue “realistic applications” of this technology first, such as helping treat severe strokes, cancer lesions, paralysis, and memory problems, before spanning into mass adoption for what he dubbed “consensual telepathy”.
“I think we are about eight to 10 years away from this being usable by people with no disability,” Mr. Musk said. “It is important to note that this depends heavily on regulatory approval timing and how well our devices work on people with disabilities.”

Mr. Musk ended by echoing a previously stated warning that he believes this technology is an inevitable necessity to avoid the human race being left behind in an AI-robotics singularity.
“The pace of progress in this direction matters a lot,” Mr. Musk said. “We don’t want to develop digital super-intelligence too far before being able to do a merged brain-computer interface.”
