A phone call between Pres. Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin goes well according to both sides. The two men agreed to try to meet this summer and work together on two of the world’s hot spots.
A White House statement says President Trump and President Putin “agreed that the suffering in Syria has gone on for far too long and that all parties must do all they can to end the violence.” They also discussed creating safe zones to “achieve lasting peace for humanitarian and many other reasons.”
President Putin asked for restraint with North Korea, according to the Kremlin, and both agreed to work together in the hopes of making diplomatic progress. Putin and Trump also emphasized their willingness to coordinating actions in the fight against terrorism.
The Kremlin also said both leaders are in favor of meeting in July, around the G20 summit.
