Creationist invited, disinvited, re-invited to speak at univ.
After originally contracting Ham to speak on the topic, “Genesis and the State of the Culture,” the Oklahoma Central University Student Association disinvited him late last month.
The head of AIG explained why he believes the association wavered on their decision.
“Apparently, the LGBT group headed by a tenured professor really put pressure on the student association – particularly on the president of the student association,” the young-Earth creationist suspected, as stated in an AIG press release. “The term, ‘bullying’ was even used. The student association decided they should not have me on campus.”
Ham said that the disinvitation created quite an uproar, noting that eventually, some state legislators even discussed the matter.
“So, legislators even got involved in talking to the university about it,” the leader of the creation science ministry added. “Anyway, as a result of all that – and the pressure that people put on the university – the president himself then invited me on behalf of the university … this time, not on behalf of the student association, but on behalf of the university itself.”
Ham asserted that, overall, when he speaks on college campuses, the majority of students are very thankful, and many of them thank him for the information that they have never heard before – or haven’t even thought of.
