Canada trying to silence pro-life movement
A number of Canadian cities are establishing buffer zones to prevent pro-life counselors from convincing women at abortion clinics to have their babies, and some counselors have actually been arrested.
In the latest episode to take place north of the border, the Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) is planning the nation’s 2018 March for Life and invited popular conservative radio host Andrew Lawton from Corus Entertainment to join in the event.
CLC Spokesperson Johanne Brownrigg made the call to invite the radio personality.
“And it was all fine, and he said, ’That’s terrific – I’ll just run it by my employer and get back to you,” Brownrigg shared. “And then sadly, the employer felt that this might be good for Andrew Lawton’s brand on his show – he’s a strong social conservative – but it wouldn’t be great for their brand.”
As a result, Lawton had to cancel his anticipated appearance. Brownrigg says that even though the pro-life movement is growing in Canada, abortion is still virtually an untouchable issue there.
“What is also happening in Canadian culture though, is this really profound grappling with freedom of speech, freedom of association and religious freedom,” she pointed out. “We have a very radical, liberal government that is legitimizing actually more of a totalitarian approach to contentious issues.”
This essentially means that a person in Canada either aligns with liberal thinking, or he or she is pushed out of the conversation. However, this will not deter the pro-life movement in Canada.
Brownrigg insists that the more the government and institutions try to silence members of the pro-life community – including those at CLC’s Ottawa Bureau – the more emboldened they become to stand their ground.
