Reports validate warning about Target’s policy
An organization leading a boycott against Target continues to see evidence that its concern over the retailer’s dangerous bathroom policy is based in fact.
American Family Association has been boycotting Target over its policy allowing transgender people to use the bathroom or changing room of the gender in which they say they identify. Target says it’s all about inclusivity, but AFA is concerned about the safety and privacy of women and children, adding that sexual predators may take advantage of the policy.
Recently, a 22-year-old man was arrested in New Hampshire for allegedly recording underage girls in a Target changing room. In May, authorities in Texas were looking for a man after a girl claimed he was recording her in a Target changing room. And earlier this week in Idaho, a man who identifies as a woman was arrested on a voyeurism charge for allegedly taking pictures of a woman changing clothes in a Target dressing room.
AFA has warned Target that these kinds of things may happen, but no changes have been made by Target.
“Even though Target has not listened to reasoning to date, we believe it’s our duty to continue to warn America that should they go into Target stores, they very well risk the safety of their wives and daughters” responds AFA’s Abraham Hamilton III.
A former criminal prosecutor, Hamilton says it’s not just their physical safety that’s at risk, but mental safety as well. “I’ve had the experience of prosecuting predators for abusing children – and there are some bells that you can’t un-ring,” he explains.
The organization’s online petition is approaching 1.4 million signatures.
“We’re asking everyone who has signed the boycott to get one more person to add their name to the online petition,” Hamilton concludes, “because if one person who has signed the petition to boycott gets one more person to do so, we can immediately double the numbers.”
AFA is now offering a paper version of the petition for people to print and distribute to others.
