A California high school teacher was placed on paid leave after asking her students this week if they thought school administrators would allow them to walk out of class over the issue of abortion like they have for school shootings.

Rocklin High School history teacher Julianne Benzel told FOX News:

“I opened up the discussion for if schools … are going to allow one group of students to get up during class and walk out to protest on one issue, would they still give the same courtesy to another group of students who wanted to get up and walk out in protest. And I used the example of abortion.”

Benzel said she was merely trying to a start a class discussion ahead of National Walkout Day on whether the situation would be treated the same way if a school walkout was organized from the other side of the political aisle. But because two students and one parent took exception to her question, she received a two-day paid leave.

National Walkout Day was held Wednesday, and resulted in students from more than 3,000 participating schools walking out of their classes to advocate for gun control. Students are other schools that did not participate were disciplined.
