800-plus deportees turned into U.S. citizens
An audit conducted by the inspector general for Homeland Security discovered the problem, which was blamed on incomplete fingerprint records that allowed at least 858 immigrants to enjoy legal citizenship.
Citing the IG report released Monday, news website Politico stated that the people had been “ordered to be deported or removed” from the U.S. but instead obtained citizenship.
The report also revealed that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services failed to catch fraudulent names and birth dates due to missing fingerprint records.
Ira Mehlman of Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, says the Obama administration has one objective when it comes to processing citizenship applications: get them into the country no matter what.
“Whatever it is,” he says of that left-wing effort, “find a way to dispense some kind of immigration benefit to the people who are applying rather than do your jobs diligently.”
The IG inspection found at least three immigrants, who went from deportees to citizens, had obtained clearance for “security-sensitive work” at airports or other facilities.
Mehlman points out that the IG report comes just one week after the Obama administration announced it will increase the number of refugees by 30 percent in the coming fiscal year, which begins October 1.
