Objective: Call out abortion giant in GOP platform
Members of the Republican Platform Committee are hearing a message from pro-lifers that they won’t stop working to protect life.
The GOP’s 2012 platform supports denying tax dollars to organizations that provide abortions. But Troy Newman of Operation Rescue tells OneNewsNow that #OperationRNC demonstrators are in Cleveland asking that defunding of Planned Parenthood be specifically mentioned in the 2016 platform.
“A lot of people know – [people] who helped found the Center for Medical Progress, the group that exposed the horrific practice of the sale of human body parts from Planned Parenthood – [they know] this alone on its face should take their money away,” the pro-life leader explains.
“But on top of that, the [House] Select Committee on Infant Lives … has found that Planned Parenthood has flagrantly violated the law.” Consequently, he says, Planned Parenthood shouldn’t receive any money from taxpayers.
In fact, Carol Tobias – president of National Right to Life Committee – told OneNewsNow earlier this month that she wouldn’t be surprised if Planned Parenthood is specifically named in the platform this time around.
Newman adds that there’s pressure within the Republican Party to soften pro-life language – but #OperationRNC has a different message.
“This is not the time for the pro-life movement to shrink back in any way. We’re in the strongest position we have ever been,” he emphasizes. “We’re not going to negotiate with those who are pro-abortion; we’re not going to take no for an answer; we’re not going to shrink back. We’re going to push our advantage and we’re here to win.”
#OperationRNC will also be on hand to continue that message when the Republican National Convention convenes July 18-21 in Cleveland, Ohio.
