St. Louis: Boy suspended over Trump slogan hat
February 07, 2017

A St. Louis mother says she never thought allowing her 12-year-old son to wear a “Make America Great Again” hat would get him beat up and suspended.
The cultural war and civil unrest brewing and manifesting in America today is increasingly concerning. The violent acts against those that support President Donald Trump is spilling into school districts. The most recent case being that of a 12-year-old being suspended in St. Louis for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.
Cell phone video obtained by KMOV shows a group of students ganging up on the boy and yelling about President Donald Trump’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall. The images show some shaving and possible jabs against the student inside the school bus.
“I saw him being berated and bullied and beat, literally beat, because he feels strongly about the world today,” the sixth-grader’s mother Christina Cortina told KMOV.
“As a parent it’s so upsetting. I feel like my son was made an example of, it was a tricky situation, it was politically charged.”
The minor’s mother Christina Cortina told local News 4 that said she is outraged that her son was suspended in the aftermath of the incident, though he was the victim. In the interview with News 4 Gavin stated that at one point the boy being aggressive with him got so frustrated that he pushed him and kept backing him against the bus window. Part of what is heard in the video captures is at least one student clearly yelling,
“you want to build a wall? You want to build a f****** wall?”
A representative for the Parkway School District also told the local news outlet that all students involved in the attack have faced “consequences” following a full investigation.
